"Kubrick Ping Pong" is part of a group of Color Bombs that tend to be more atmospheric and minimal. The open areas of color, isolated dots, and fine sweeping lines make me think of space and planets. The name is a reference to Stanley Kubrick and his 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey". The film is visually and musically very minimal. Even the dialogue is sparse, but it is all so robust and striking. The latter part of the title is a play on our perception of how ridiculously insignificant and minimal we are compared to anything cosmic. A planet may dwarf the size of the earth but in a different context it is nothing more than a ping pong ball.
