Flowers
This summer I started painting flowers from the yard that the deer don't eat. Having flowers in the studio are like miniature fireworks, or pristine landscapes shrunken down and plopped in a glass or vase. Some do better than others after they are picked and placed in water, and knowing that they will soon wilt and die is wonderful motivation to simply get on with the painting and stop thinking. They exude so much otherworldly and natural beauty, they are a perfect and timeless vessel for making paintings.
