I painted all these watercolors outside on location. I’ve sought out places I know so well – I no longer see, and I’ve found new locations, right under my nose, that have such sheer beauty – it stops me in my tracks. When I begin a painting outside with nothing but my white sheet of paper, it always feels overwhelming and impossible. But as I start painting, I become at ease with the landscape and start to connect with where I am and who I am. And if I’m lucky, I’ll eventually forget all my intentions and the painting will start to call the shots, and all I need to do is stay out of the way. I feel so fortunate to be able to live and paint in this part of the world.
