These watercolors have all been created outside on location. I've sought out places I know so well I no longer see, and I've found new places right under my nose that have such sheer beauty it stops me in my tracks. When I begin a painting outside with my white sheet of paper I feel small and impossible. But as I start painting I become at ease with the landscape and start to connect with where I am and who I am. If I am lucky I will eventually feel good enough to step out into the unknown with a fragile sense that I have some tiny power to push things this way or that if I can also stay out of the way. I feel so fortunate to be able to live and paint in this part of the world.
